My husband is from a little town just outside of Belfast, Northern Ireland. So, when we have the funds (and I get the vacation time approved) we try to get over to visit his family. It had been three years since our last visit, so it was long over due. While we were there, my mother-in-law celebrated her 60th birthday. I reached out to several bake shops in the area around her to see if anyone would be kind enough to let me use their kitchen to make her a pretty cake. Out of all that I sent out, the only one to respond was Barbra from Barbara's Cakes. Let me tell you, I couldn't have been happier. She was an absolute pleasure to work with!
The entire operation was a secret to my MIL. We said one night after dinner "uhhh, we gotta go!" and bolted outta there before questions could be asked. After a couple of hours, this little gem was born:
Now, keep in mind this was nothing like my original design. Turns out I was nutso. I was going to do something completely over the top and ginormous. I'm glad I was talked out of it. It would have been a waste of our time and the materials.
Annnnd moving on. While on our vacation we went over to Scotland and down into England. Sadly, I did not see Nessy. My husband keeps telling me the Loch Ness Monster is nothing but a trash bag on a loch. That's one half of a trash bag to last decades and decades for all the various Nessy spotters. Such a spoil sport.
I truly enjoyed being in Scotland, even if the weather was crummy. London was MUCH too busy for me to really enjoy. There are people everywhere! Here are a few pics snapped along the way:

I know it may take some time before this blog gets some followers. I want to have a place to share my thoughts and ideas and maybe even a laugh or two. :-)
